We will be open this coming Easter weekend as usual apart from the Monday.

Join us this Easter holidays 3rd – 14th April for some fluffy fun sessions in our alpaca paddock. We have a fun filled schedule of activities for you to enjoy with family, friends and of course the kids.

We have @iheartartclub @primalwonders running some lovely sessions and of course myself and the family here to guide you through all things our back garden.

Spring In Our Back Garden Event ON HOLD!!

With all our plans and logistics in motion for the event this coming weekend we are yet to welcome our first lambs ! In a winter where Mother nature has been confounding us weather- wise she has now surprised us again . Despite every pregnancy calculator telling us to expect first lambs from March 11th – we are still waiting ….. Our ewes have been tucked away in the “maternity wing” for 2 weeks now and are looking more than ready to start delivering – but as of early this morning we are still waiting !

Based on this it is only fair to put the event on hold until the new arrivals begin to appear. As we know that the lambs will be the highlight of your day with us.

As always we are so grateful for your support to our small family business and we try our very best to give our best to you all but this time Mother nature has caught us out somewhat. We are absolutely devastated to have to announce this as we have already put in all the work, but it wouldn’t be right to run without the stars of the show.

Hello OBG family … it’s me

We have had quite a few new followers over the last few months. Hi …This is me with my Flora one of our very original alpacas (named after me 🥰)

My name is Laura (Nickname Flora Dora)
32, mixed 🇬🇧British and 🇳🇬 Nigerian heritage,
mum to Felix, wife to Perry . Daughter of Lade & John.
Former fashion buyer now alpaca lady 🤣

I am honoured to be voice of our beautiful family run farm and a proud champion of “Our Back Garden”

A lot has happened to me and my family in our lives but the proudest thing we are a part of is Our Back Garden.

I spent over a decade working as a fashion buyer ( all levels included) after studying fashion at university my first love was deeply set in bringing beautiful ideas to life. After a devastating redundancy I was left feeling broken and rejected from the industry I loved. Feeling lost due to often not really having anyone who looks like me in senior positions or in the spaces i wanted to be in. I realised I had an opportunity to try to grow something of my own. Something that made my heart happy and the people I love proud.

“Our Back Garden” was born before we had a home on our 24 acres but we always knew this would be our legacy. Everything we have developed here was born out of things we love to do as a family.

Established in 2019 we started with a few alpaca wool hats in our local church hall to offering wholesome alpaca experiences & products. Helping us advocate the need for sustainable farming and the biodiversity the south coast has to offer.

If you’re on site you will either find me welcoming you on site, leading an alpaca walk, serving coffees, cleaning, picking up alpaca poop !! 💩 or running after my little boy Felix ….

The last decade has been so incredibly difficult trying to find a way to make our dreams become a reality. There are days where I feel like things are impossible. But one thing I can say is that the good will and incredible community around us keeps us pulling on those muddy boots each day. Our hope is we build a business that built for us all and the land we live on for generations to come.
