Washing Alpaca Wool
Hand washing is the safest way to clean alpaca wool. This gentle method protects the delicate fibres, ensuring your garment retains its shape and softness.
- Use the Right Detergent: Choose a wool and cashmere shampoo or enzyme-free gentle detergent.
- Prepare Cool Water: Fill a basin with cool water and evenly mix the detergent. Alpaca wool is sensitive to heat, so avoid warm or hot water.
- Pre-Treat Stains: Spot-clean stains before soaking by gently patting with detergent and cool water. This step may eliminate the need for full soaking.
- Soak the Garment: Submerge your item and let it soak for 15–30 minutes, depending on the level of dirt.
- Rinse Thoroughly: Rinse with clean, cool water until all soap is removed.
Drying Alpaca Wool
Top tip: Lay the garment flat on a clean towel and roll them up. Press to remove excess water. Do not wring or twist the product as this can stretch the fibres and misshape the product.
- Transfer the garment to a fresh towel or linen and place it on a drying rack. Let it dry flat at room temperature.
- Avoid hanging the garment, as the weight can cause stretching or distortion.
Storing Alpaca Wool
Proper storage is key to maintaining the shape and quality of your alpaca wool items.
- Use breathable cotton or canvas storage bags to protect against dust and moisture.
- Fold or roll garments to prevent stretching.
- Store in a cool, dry place to keep your alpaca wool fresh and ready to wear.
